Diversity Experiences
Samaritan's Feet
- This event, as described in the Servant Leadership tab, exposed me to many young children that came from a variety of backgrounds. This experience is one I will never forget and was so humbled that I was able to help so many children and families in need. It was extremely rewarding to see the big smiles and many laughs the young children and I shared racing around the gymnasium in their new shoes.
Practicum I
- For Practicum I, I was placed at Bismarck High School. I was part of an extremely diverse freshman classroom. I was surrounded by students of many different cultures. Additionally, there was a handful of students that were English Learners. This was a great experience for my professional career, as these students challenged me to think creatively and find new ways to communicate and to teach mathematics.
Coaching
- Being a volunteer assistant coach for Hazen High School provided me with a great opportunity to interact with diverse students outside of the classroom. This coaching experience helped me develop key communication and relationship building skills that I can use in the classroom. Additionally, it challenged me to teach something other than mathematics which helped continue to improve my pedagogical skills.
